All About Chronic Yeast Infection

Many people suffer from chronic yeast infection for months or even a year.  It can affect your life drastically.  Yeast infections can be a sign of other problems such as diabetes.

The symptoms of a chronic yeast infection can be extremely irritating.  Women who have an infection can have vaginal itching and burning.  Vaginal discharge can be present which is said to look like cottage cheese.  Other symptoms can include gas, indigestion, bloating, heartburn, diarrhea, sinus problems, rectal itching, bad breath, chemical sensitivities, difficulty in concentration, plus headaches, dizziness, and more.

The yeast infection is often caused by candida albicans.  They generally are controlled by other useful bacteria.  The candidiasis can spread through out other areas of the body including the skin and sinuses.  This growth of candida organisms can be caused by the use of antibiotics.  It can also be spread by a hormonal or ph change.  Who would have thought that along with the bad bacteria, which causes infection, that antibiotics can destroy the good bacteria in the body.  Because of an imbalance in the bacteria, yeast is left to multiply causing a yeast infection. 

The consumption of alcohol, too many carbohydrates, and sugar can cause yeast infection.  Diabetes, the birth control pill, and parasitic infections contribute as well.

Treatments for chronic yeast infections are numerous.  Before you use any treatment meant for this problem, be sure you are treating the right infection by visiting your doctor.  The doctor will take tests by using a specimen taken from the affected area.  Then you will receive a diagnosis.  If you do have a vaginal yeast infection you can proceed from there.  It is never a good practice to self-medicate for yeast infection.  If you are suffering from chronic yeast infection and you know the symptoms generally connected it may be alright to use the self-medication method.  On the other hand, of those symptoms deviate, especially if a fever or a different color discharge is involved, you will definitely need to notify your doctor.  These could be symptoms of another type of infection or maybe a more severe illness.

Some candidiasis have been known to respond to some treatments and yet not to others.  What you have to do is test the treatments.  Use a couple of different treatments, if you are not responding choose another.  Try it for a few months when dealing with chronic yeast infection.  If symptoms become more severe or do not cease, notify your doctor.

The same strain of candida quite often is the cause of chronic yeast infection.  This yeast strain is generally resistant to typical treatments.  These recurrences can usually be controlled by weekly treatments of terconazole vaginal crème, which can decrease the frequency of the infections.
