Most people do not associate a yeast infection with men. The most common case of yeast infection is a vaginal yeast infection. However, a male can contract or develop a yeast infection through various means. Yeast infections in men can be contacted by engaging in sex with a female who has a yeast infection. He can contract it from her and even proceed to pass it back to her after her infection is gone. It is a bad idea to sleep with your partner if either of you has a yeast infection. Bear in mind that though this transmission is possible, it is not certain.

Using condoms can also enhance the possibility of yeast infection in homosexual males. These condoms possess a lubricant that has nonoxynol 9. They can cause yeast infections in the anus. Men should take care not to purchase condoms containing this spermicide.

Another factor that can aid in the development of yeast infections in men is the use of antibiotics. This can cause a yeast infection on the penis. An antibiotic could encourage the growth of the yeast infection by killing the good bacteria.

Diabetic males are prone to yeasts infections. The reason for this is that the content of sugar in the urine is high. High levels of sugar are known to increase the growth of yeast.

Just like in women, the presence of AIDS or any condition that causes the immune system to weaken or break down is an open field for yeast infection.

Yeast infections in men appear as a red rash that has flaky white skin around borders of the redness. There may be redness and blisters along the shaft and at the end of the penis. In order to control these yeast infections, men can use yeast infection creams and ointments just like women. They need to use the cream two times per day by applying it directly to the rash. It is said that men can also use apple cider or yogurt (not pasteurized) on the rash. Soak the affected area in one of these two ingredients for a five minute period each day. If the infection is prolonged, then definitely make an appointment with your doctor. This infection could be a symptom of a more complicated problem.

Now, let’s mention briefly oral yeast infections in men acquired by means of oral sex. This infection would be called thrush. It manifests itself in the form of patches of white coating on the tongue and in the mouth and throat areas. With this type of infection, you need nystatin (an oral prescription). Some people use Genetian Violet inside the mouth, but it will leave an ugly stain. Do not use over the counter medication for an oral yeast infection.

A word to men—never think that only a female can get one of those nasty, embarrassing yeasts infections. You can get it too. If you do suspect that you have contracted an oral or a genital yeast infection, contact your physician to assure that it is indeed a yeast infection. Most of all, remember not to engage in sexual activity until the infection is cleared up. You may think that your yeast infection is recurring when it is actually the very same infection being passed back and forth between you and your partner.
